the snow is melting

day 91

(You can click on the photo to view it big.)

I did a lot of driving around today, dropping off and picking up siblings. Alaskans are crazy drivers, to say the least. I had to put my life into my own hands a couple of times, and not because of any fault of my own.

My brother posed for a photo though. Good thing I brought my camera with me!

life is awesome

day 90

Yesterday was our final performance for the Play of Awesome. And my last high school play ever. I'll write more about it later. But man, this has been the best show ever.

winner!

Congrats Faithe! You're the winner of my very first giveaway!

I finally found time since the play has ended to draw the winner. Hooray! Thank you everyone who entered and I wish I could send all of you something! Your support means the world to me.

In the upcoming days I'll be back to my normal blogging self. And maybe I'll actually start planning blog posts or something.

Have a great day everyone. :)

kitties

day 89

Tonight we had a super super amazing show! I'm so excited to perform again tomorrow and I cannot wait to do a giant post for you guys!

bold as love

A suuuper quick outfit post because I had just a little bit of time in between school and the play. My brother got a lot of clothes from another family and let me have this shirt. It's super warm and I decided to channel my inner rocker (haha it's hidden deep inside of me) and wear it to school. My mom sort of laughed and I'm sure some people were wondering why in the world I went from a super colorful girly outfit yesterday to a dark outfit today. Oh well. That's just how I roll. I just thought it was hilarious that Matt wore all black as well! He looked more fancy than me though. :3

And now I'm off to another performance!

summer comes to multiply

Aaaww yeeeah it's an outfit post! Though I won't be able to post another one for a couple of days, it's good to be back. It's now officially breakup season in Alaska, which means all the snow is melting and turning to nasty dirty mush, but the fact that it's getting lighter outside and summer is coming is making up for the gross scenery. But one thing's for sure: postcard photographers do not come during this season!

But look at this photo! I'm standing on concrete! You can see behind me just how much snow has yet to melt ... it's going to be forever until we see green grass again.

And I'm standing on the only little patch of concrete in our driveway. How cute.

If you all were wondering about how the play this week has been going, it's been so much fun! We have two more shows (tomorrow and friday) and then I'm going to have so much free time after school I won't know what to do with myself.

and how can I stand here with You and not be moved by You

day 88

You should really click on the photo. For serious. Do it. Do it now.

Hooray! A conceptual photo! I love simple photos of my daily life, but I just adore the creation aspect of photography. It's really a perfect way to express how I feel when I cannot find the words.

day 87

day 86

This is the book that began our class on a truly awesome journey.

Tomorrow is our day off from the play, so maybe I'll get an outfit post in! Wouldn't that be fun? Oh, and maybe some long needed sleep. I am exhausted!

And on that note, goodnight! (Or good morning if you're reading it in the morning. :) )

Have an awesome day!

playing catch up

day 85

Today was a lazy sunday. I'm finally caught up on the 365, only to probably be falling behind this upcoming week. But that's okay because our school play is awesome.

day 84

This day I woke up and took photos of awesome people, then went shopping with my mom, went to the library, hung out at coffee with more awesome people, ate dinner with Matt's family, watched pokemon, and had adventures at carrs. This was a good day.

day 83

this might be cheating, but I scanned these photos for the play and I just love them.
The top left is my mom as a little girl with her uncle who used to live in Alaska. Top right is my mom holding a cat (I see where I get it). Bottom left is my grandma and her husband. And bottom right are my parents while they were still dating.
I love these photos so much. And while I was talking to my mom about them, I learned that my grandfather loved photography and even had a darkroom in his house. Love how passions are passed down through generations.

day 82

this was the senior celebration and Matt's pokemon badge.

day 81

Aaand a random photo of my face.

Hooray! I'm caught up! Sorry about not being on here in a while, I've really missed blogging a ton. But sometimes life gets in the way and that's okay. I love having a happy medium between being at home editing photos and blogging and going out with friends and being busy with work. But sometimes priorities have to change, and this week it's the play. After this week I'll do an awesome post to tell you all about it and then I should be back to that happy medium!

In the meantime, have a great week everyone!

The Cast of Awesome

day 80

Aaaaaw a family portrait with the entire family! This photo is infinitely better than the one I took before, and I already ordered this to go on our "living room wall" in the show!

So I'm going to have to talk for just a moment about something suuuper important: SMART SHOPPING. Haha okay, maybe not that important, but hey, everyone likes saving money, right? So before I ordered the photos from Walgreens (and I'm seriously in love with Walgreens photos right now), I quickly searched the internet for any coupons. There are always coupon websites that list codes for some pretty good deals, and lo and behold I found one. (I never like giving out my information to random websites, so be sure to look for one that doesn't require anything ... I got my code without even an email.) I'm not quite sure what the code specifically was for (just because I don't remember, hah), but it took twelve dollars off my order! Score! So my advice to you is this: always always always look for discounts before you buy something online, and ask if there are any discounts when you go shopping in real life. You never know if you'll save money if you don't try!

But on to this photo. I seriously love every single person in this. We've grown into a real little family of awkward and crazy and awesome drama people. I've just been having a ton of fun with this play, it hasn't been stressful, we've all bonded and had adventures and made memories together, and I will be so sad when it's over! Like always, I can guarantee next week will be so scary since we're actually performing in front of people (haha it's always right before a show I question why I ever even got myself into this mess), but man, I will be sad when it's over.

These are some of my favorite people ever. I cannot even repeat it enough. I love them.

p.s. Don't forget to enter my giveaway!! Tomorrow's the last day!

in you shine

day 79

The next two weeks will be filled with simple photos, as I am busy with our school's production.

But here is a photo of my dear sweet man. Today was our thirteenth monthaversary, 'cause we're lame like that.

Today was our first tech day, with the play exactly one week away. My friends Amy and Miss Williams, along with Ryan and myself all went to go get the couch for the play. (Ryan went on to the school with the couch, while we followed behind.) Then of course Amy's gas light came on in her car and we rushed to the gas station on fumes, proud that we got there in time. But then (ooh man it was just like a movie), none of us had money to pay for gas! The boys back at the school didn't answer any phones, so we walked to the bank and broke in to get money. (Actually Amy was able to withdraw money without a card or i.d. ... thank you nice bank lady!) We payed for the gas after working through a faulty pump, and finally made it back to the school, without man's assistance, haha. It was super hilarious.

And of course there has been the typical cast silliness. In the upcoming days (if I have time) I'll post some photos I've been taking of it, and certainly I will post all about it after the performances.

In the meantime, we have rehearsal until 7:30pm. So Lauren has hardly any time for anything. But that's okay because this play will be spectacular. :)

If I was young, I'd flee this town

shirt: c/o sugarlips // jacket: mom's closet // shorts: diy // leggings: forever 21

I definitely feel like I'm channeling my inner french girl with this outfit. Maybe I've just been inspired by all the french blogs I've been following? And you remember how I was saying I want to put more bright colors in my wardrobe (so this new pastel craze is doing nothing for me)? Well my mother has come to the rescue once more! I sneaked into her closet and snagged this gorgeous suede-esque jacket. It's super fun!

Aaand I painted my nails to match! They're giant hearts. :)

Sorry for the short post, school is back in session and I'm working hard on our play. It's going to be awesome!

there's an empty space inside my heart where the weeds take root

day 78

For the love of all that is good in the world, please click on the photo. You won't regret it.

Above all else, I want my photos to tell a story. During my first 365, I was worried about posting things that weren't necessarily in my character to post. For example, with today's photo, the story behind it is of a girl who's lost a lover. That is not reflective of my personal life, but for the longest time I would have been nervous to post something like that for fear someone would think that something actually is wrong. But I'm slowly and surely breaking out of that shell. Part of photography is to tell the truth, but the other part is to create a story. Sometimes it's great therapy for when something actually is the matter in my personal life, but sometimes it has nothing to do with it. And that's the beauty of photography.

So like I said before, the story behind this photo is a girl who's lost her lover. I'm not sure if he just went on a trip or died or left her, but while I was shooting the saying, "goodbye my almost lover" was ringing through my head. The story is told through her eyes.

Well alas, it's the last day of spring break! I guess I should get started on the homework I refused to do throughout the week, eh? I would say it was very productive! I finished my health class, ordered pictures, sewed a skirt and pillows, launched Introvert's Introduction's very first giveaway, which you can still enter in right here! (Please please enter! Yeah!) I had a photo adventure as well, not to mention I got to hang out with Matt a little bit! But it's back to school ... the next two weeks are going to be kind of slow on here, I'm afraid, because we're down to the wire on our school's play, so I will be very busy with that. But only two more months until summer!

How was your spring break? I really want to know about it! (Oh and apparently some people in the lower 48 have their spring break this week ... so what are your plans?) Have a great day!

eye of the camera

Throughout the years, many people have caught me in my natural habitat: behind a camera. It seems as though I'm photographing things all the time, which is probably true. You can get a kick out of the things I photograph and where I photograph, and also watch for my pinky that I so love to subconsciously stick up in the air whenever I take a photo.

This one was taken by my boyfriend, Matt, back when my hair was shorter:

Aly snapped this one of me while I was taking pictures of ... shoes. Hahaha ooh goodness:

My British friend Rachael took this while I was playing with another friend's camera:

Riding a bike and taking photos simultaneously is not for the faint of heart. Neither is photographing shrimp on a boat (my mom took these):

My mom caught me chilling by a fire on our friend's island:

My mom took a photo of me taking a photo of my sister while we hiked through a dried riverbed:

Becca, another friend and fellow photographer, tagged along while I took some senior photos and snapped all of these:

Matt also came along. He is super supportive.

My friend Jacob came too!

Before our family went on vacation to an island off the coast of Alaska, I thought I had put my camera in danger. I didn't even know the meaning of danger until kayaking on the open ocean with my camera! My mom took this one:

And just the other day my friend Aly and I got together again and took photos together:

I don't think I could go anywhere without my camera. You never know what you might miss!

I wait in 4/4 time

day 77

"the sidewalks are watching me think about you"

That second photo was going to be my main photo, but I just wasn't very happy about it. Then I tried to edit the extras (the first photo) and viola! A photo that I am super proud of. This is the kind of photography I want to create. And you know what, the second photo is kind of growing on me too. Thank you to my little sister for doing this even though she didn't really want to.

start cranking the generators

shirt: mom's closet // pants: forever 21 // shoes: forever 21

When I was running around my room with this outfit on, my dad came in, kind of laughed a little bit, and then said the world wasn't ready for me. Hah! I'm not sure if it's ready for me either, especially if I'm wearing this. I know this isn't my usual style, but after these pants and shoes called to me the other day, I just had to get them. It seems no one else shopping at forever 21 wanted the poor pants because their price was marked down a ton, which is more than fine for Lauren!

Aren't these shoes just crazy awesome? They seriously make me five inches taller. Woo! I won't risk wearing them outside (especially after taking these photos), but man oh man am I excited to wear them to school. Hopefully the floors in the hallways won't be too slippery!

Well spring break is finally coming to an end. I've gotten so many things done this week, and for the most part it was an enjoyable break. It's back to school in a couple days though ... can't say I'm very excited.

P.S. I was featured on another blog! Go check it out here!
